Nursing Home Neglect
The condition of nursing homes can be frightening. If you have ever set foot in one you may remember the horrible conditions that you were shocked to see, hear and even smell. If you reside or have placed a family member in a nursing home you know the decision to do so was very hard. After placement, you typically do not have the time to watch them or visit. You expect that the facility will take care of your family member and do it well. After all, that is their specialty and that is what they emphasized to you in order to get your business. Many times, we hear that the nursing homes gave such a fine presentation in order to get you to place your loved one in their facility. They advised that they would take adequate precautions to prevent skin ulcers, falls, and simply promised that quality of life would be maintained if not made better.
There is a reason why you hear of nursing home neglect so much in our media. It's because it has gone on for too long. It's because it continues despite public outcry. There is no reason why you or your loved one has to endure the neglect and at times abuse while in a nursing home. They owe it to you to give proper care and are supposed to make sure the nursing home resident has a decent and dignified existence. When that does not happen there is nothing but frustration, disappointment and anger, all unnecessary, all preventable.
