Passenger Vans Rollover Crashes
"It can hold your everything in your daughter's closet and carry as many as fifteen happy campers!"
This was the marketing ploy used by Daimler Chrysler to attract customers. It conveys a happy sense of family, youth, togetherness, and idyllic innocence. It's the kind of vehicle you would love to see a little league baseball team riding in on the way to the big game. At least, this is the way it was marketed.
In reality, our youth are being transported in some of the most dangerous vehicles allowed on the streets - on the way to church, school, or social group meetings. Studies show that 15-passenger vans roll over more often than any other vehicle made. They are poorly designed, poorly manufactured, and often poorly maintained. They are very inexpensive vehicles that are a hazard for our loved ones.
To truly understand how easily severe accidents can occur is astounding. These multi-passenger vans have a heavy passenger load, a high rollover rate, and have almost no protection against hazards such as roof crush. When one at full capacity turns over, 15 people are at risk of losing their lives. When observed, it was found that 70% of all vans carrying 15 people roll over when involved in any type of crash or tire blow out. Rollovers, often described as the most dangerous type of crash, have little to do with driving ability, or whether or not safety restraints and devices are used by passengers. Statistics show that whether seat belts are used, or not, there is only thing that can save you in the event of a serious accident: that is a well-made vehicle.
Viles and Beckman, LLC is working hard to protect the legal rights of those involved in rollover crashes and improve auto safety standards. In the meantime, we urge people to avoid using these vans. More importantly we are working to enact change - by bringing your cases to the manufacturers, they are forced to stop cutting corners in the design, engineering, and manufacturing processes, and to start building safer vehicles in which our we, and our loved ones can ride.
The manufacturers of these vehicles must be compelled to adhere to safety standards, designed to make sure they are building safer vehicles. American lives will never be worth the discount of a poorly made vehicle. In 17 years, almost 600 people have died due to defective and unsafe vans. We at Viles and Beckman, LLC will continue to hold manufacturers accountable.
