Marcus W. Viles co-founded Viles & Beckman, LLC, alongside Michael Beckman, with a simple belief that has guided the firm ever since: anyone who is unfairly injured should be able to stand on equal ground with insurance companies and the legal teams they hire. For more than 30 years, Marcus dedicated his life to advocating for injured Floridians, until his passing in 2023. He stood out as a trusted name across Southwest Florida, fiercely championing his clients and leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

Marcus’s passion for his clients was unmatched. His genuine, kind spirit, paired with deep legal experience, set him apart, and it was his personal dedication to every case he accepted that truly distinguished him.

Board Certification in Civil Trial Law

Marcus W. Viles was a Board-Certified Civil Trial Attorney, a distinction held by only about 1% of all attorneys in Florida. Board certification is awarded by The Florida Bar through the Florida Certification Board to lawyers who demonstrate substantial knowledge, experience, and ethics in civil trial practice. The application process is rigorous and highly selective. Earning it reflected the standard of trial excellence that Marcus brought to the courtroom throughout his career, and it remains the founding standard that continues to shape how Viles & Beckman prepares every case today.

A Career Devoted to the Injured

Marcus practiced almost exclusively in personal injury and wrongful death throughout his career. His experience spanned auto accidents, negligence, products liability, nursing home neglect and abuse, catastrophic injuries, and class action litigation. He tried cases in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, and throughout Florida, and he traveled across the country to help injured clients pursue the compensation they deserved.

While these were areas of particular focus, Marcus was experienced in virtually every area of Florida tort law, and he was always ready to stand up for clients no matter how complex their injuries.

A Lasting Legacy

Marcus’s legacy lives on at Viles & Beckman every day. Michael Beckman and the entire V&B team remain committed to upholding the values he helped build the firm on: aggressive advocacy, integrity, and treating every client like family.

His name also carries forward through the Marcus W. Viles Community Growth Scholarship, offered through the firm and the Viles & Beckman Foundation to support students in our Southwest Florida community.

Marcus W. Viles will always be remembered for his character, his commitment to the injured, and the lasting difference he made in the lives of his clients, his colleagues, and his community.
