Graduates Now That You've Graduated Whats Next

Whether you’ve graduated from High School or College, you deserve praise for all that you have accomplished! You’ve worked hard and now it’s time to reward yourself with a fun road trip. Before you head out to your favorite destination, keep the following in mind:

Regular Vehicle Maintenance Can Prevent Car Accidents

Check your oil, your engine coolant, the air pressure in your tires, your brake pads, windshield wipers, and wiper fluid. Make sure you check the air in your spare tire! Don’t get stuck on the side of the highway for something you could have easily prevented. Consider using a checklist like this to make sure you’re covered before you go!

Avoid Driving Fatigue by Switching Drivers

Adults between the ages of 18-29 are much more likely to drive while drowsy compared to other age groups. Don’t be part of the statistics! Change drivers or stop to stretch your legs every couple hours. Be mindful of the speed limit, use caution in construction zones and be sure to pull over for Emergency Service vehicles. You would want others to do the same for you. What would you do if you were in crisis and the ambulance was stuck in traffic?

Avoid Distracted Driving and Put Away Your Phone

Texting and using your cell phone while driving is one of the leading causes of accidents and severe injuries on the road. 26% of all accidents are caused by people that text while driving. In fact, you are actually more likely to die because of an accident caused by texting while driving rather than drunk driving. Don’t be another statistic. Just put your phone on airplane mode or turn it off.

Distracted Driving

While texting and driving is considered to be among the most common examples of distracted driving that causes many car accidents, there are a number of other risky behaviors that are considered distracted driving as well. For example, not just texting but any smartphone use at all while driving puts you at risk for an accident. That means social media, phone calls, and even just changing the music you are listening to can be distracting enough to cause an accident. Other behaviors that are considered distracted driving include eating while driving, applying makeup, smoking, rubbernecking, intense conversation, and essentially any thing that takes away, from the motor, cognitive, and perceptive skills required for driving.

Put your phone away and keep your friends and family safe on the road.

Don’t Drink and Drive!

If you’re celebrating and wind up partying a little too hard, call a sober friend, order a ride from a ride-sharing app, or call a taxi to get home safely. Do not drive under the influence under any circumstance! You can hurt yourself, or seriously hurt or other people and their property. Drinking and driving will not only cause an accident but it can also ruin your life. A DUI is something that you can never take back and stays on your record forever. Whats worse is having to live with the fact that you hurt or even killed someone because of your actions. This goes for driving while under the influence of any controlled substance including drugs.

Here’s a list of Sober Ride programs to help you out no matter where you are in the country!

2019 Graduates: you deserve a worry-free and relaxing summer. Don’t let avoidable circumstances affect your fun in the sun!

Congratulations again!! We here at Viles & Beckman are wishing you a summer of fun and relaxation!
